If you are not viewing this email, click here. Hello. Currently in Brazil we are still living days of extreme caution and social distance due to Covid-19, but technology today allows us to be a little closer to you. For this reason, we have gathered all the latest news from Onçafari in a single Newsletter to let you know what we’ve been doing lately in benefit of our greatest objective: to preserve the environment and endangered species in different biomes of Brazil. A summary of what you will read ahead: everything about the rescue of five orphaned maned wolf cubs, how was our participation in one of the most notorious TV Shows in Brazil ("Caldeirão do Huck"), details about what we're doing with the resources collected after the fire that affected Pantanal in September 2019, our new partnership with the "Refúgio da Ilha Ecolodge" and the last "lives" we have made and participated on Instagram. To count on your attention and support is extremely important for Onçafari and, therefore, we want to keep you always informed on everything that involves our beloved jaguars and maned wolves. May we continue together even at a distance and keep doing everything we can for a better future – even if, now, that means staying home. Hope to see you soon! Mario Haberfeld ONÇAFARI IN ACTION The rescue of five orphaned maned wolf cups. Recently, the Onçafari team was responsible for the rescue of five maned wolf cubs with less than a month of life. They were found alone in a den and, three days later, Caliandra, their mother, was found dead. The reasons are still unknown, but the five cubs were taken to the Nursery of the Brasília’s Zoo to receive proper care until they reach the age of independence – when it’ll be determined whether they will be able to participate of programs to be reintroduced into nature or not. Stay connected with us to receive more news about the little maned wolves soon. ONÇAFARI ON THE MEDIA “Caldeirão do Huck” In April, Leonardo and Gustavo – our executive director and one of our biologists, respectively – gave our jaguars more popularity after participating in one of the most significant TV Shows in Brazil, a show called “Caldeirão do Huck”. Although we didn’t obtain the best results in the auditorium game, we were able to conquer a new audience of Onçafari enthusiasts just by being on the show. THANKS FROM ONÇAFARI Our accountability In September 2019, Pantanal was affected by a fire of huge impact that also reached our facilities and structures. However, with your consciousness and involvement, we had the chance to recover part of our work area and return to our activities in favour of Pantanal’s fauna and flora. For this reason – and in respectand appreciation of everyone who seeks to collaborate with our work –, one of our purposes is to always keep you informed about the investments made. Click below and check out the first report on the allocation of resources regarding the fire. ONÇA PARTNERS “Refúgio da Ilha” is now on our side Our jaguars now have a new partner: the ecolodge “Refúgio da Ilha Ecolodge”, which now joins “Caiman Ecological Refuge” as one more alternative for ecotourism in the Pantanal and to strenghtens the importance of the preservation of jaguars through tourism. ONÇATALKS Conversations for biodiversity In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22) we had a week of online talks with experts in nature and conservation. If you haven’t watched it or want to watch it again, all talks are available on our YouTube channel – as well as other “lives” on different topics. Although all talks are in Portuguese, you can enable YouTube’s automatic language translation to understand. |
